HRB Statement

We at the Hamilton Review of Books call for a Free Palestine. We stand against Israeli apartheid, settler colonialism, and genocide.

As a magazine dedicated to the written word, to books, and to free expression, we believe in the right of writers, artists, scholars, and journalists to speak out in solidarity with Gaza, the West Bank, and the Palestinian people, as well as to condemn Israel’s war crimes without fear of censorship and reprisal. We recognize the urgent need for balanced reporting and storytelling that focuses on the humanity of Palestinians, and support all those who are engaged in shedding light on and caring for Palestinian lives.

We stand behind all Jewish people and organizations who denounce Israel’s use of violence in their name. We condemn all forms of anti-Semitism, alongside Islamophobia, worldwide.

We mourn the loss of lives in Gaza, the West Bank, and Israel. We call for an immediate ceasefire, for lifting the siege on Gaza, and for the end of Israeli occupation.
